attach to process disabled

Post by yeller » Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:35 pm

Hello,

I've just downloaded and installed mem profiler 3 and also debugging tools for windows 6.7.5.1, but the Attach to Process menu item is disabled. I am evaluating.

Any ideas why?

Hi,

Due to the fact the that it's not possible to detach from a process under Windows 2000, we decided to disable the attach to feature under this OS. Are you running under Windows 2000?

We're considering adding the possibility to attach to a process under Windows 2000 as well, but it might involve considerable amount of work. So, we will see how much demand there seems to be for this feature (under Win2000) before making a final decision.

This feature was the main reason we purchased the product, but all of our production servers are running Win 2000 for many reasons. :(

If you are running Windows 2000, one thing you can try is to manually create a memory dump file and then import it into the profiler. For more information about creating and importing memory dump files, see: http://memprofiler.com/OnlineDocs/impor ... pfiles.htm

This is a bit additional work, but I think it should work (I don't have a Windows 2000 installation available at the moment).
