"Profiling stopped unexpectedly when collecting snapshot"

Post by Itamar » Mon Sep 23, 2013 11:31 am

Hi,

I'm trying to collect snapshots using NmpCore.

I'm attaching it to an application and trying to get a snapshot when it reaches to 2 to 7 gb of memory usage.

When doing that the NmpCore starts working but after "Traversing heap instances" I get the following error:

"The operation failed with the following error:
Profiling stopped unexpectedly when collecting snapshot"
Stopping session.
(see attached pic)

I've googled it and found a release note says it's fixed for version that was issued back in 2008.

Using the latest release - v4.6.52.

Please advise :?:

10x,

Itamar

This is not a known problem, so we will need some additional information in order to look into this. Could you run NmpCore with logging enabled and send us the log-files (support@scitech.se)? Using the log-files, we will hopefully get some better information about why the profiling fails.

You can create log-files by using the command line below. This will create a set of log-files in the c:\MemProfilerLogs directory.

NmpCore.exe /log:c:\MemProfilerLogs /da <process id>

Hi

I got the same issue, when trying to profile a service.

Has anything come of this? I got some logs too. Where do I send them?

BTW; I am still on a trial, that also is about to run out, but without this issue resolved, this is of no use to us.

Thx

You can send the log files to us at support@scitech.se.

After we have received the logs we will take a look at them as soon as possible.

Thanks for the log.

We have just fixed a bug in the profiler that could cause the same error as you have experienced. Before investigating your issue further, could you download the latest release from http://cdn.memprofiler.com/download/Mem ... 4_6_68.exe and try again?

If you still see the same error, can you create a full set of log-files from the profiler so that we can get some more information about it?

You can create log-files by using the command line below. This will create a set of log-files in the c:\MemProfilerLogs directory.

"C:\Program Files\SciTech\NetMemProfiler4\NetMemProfiler.exe" /log:c:\MemProfilerLogs

I have a similar error with version 4.6.68.
After creating a new Profiler Session i want to create a snapshot which fails with the following error:

2014-02-25 10:47:20.4411|11|ERROR|SciTech.Profiler.ProfilerClient|Exception caught in UnmanagedReportListener:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at P.cA.qlF.am(Vz )
at P.cB.XQ(Vz )
at P.cA.KJ()

Many thanks for your support.

Thanks for the error report.

The exception occurs at a somewhat unexpected location in the code. Is this the first error you see in the log-file?

Today we released v4.6.69 which contained a fix related to static fields evaluation. It's not very likely that this what causes your problem, but before investigating your issue further I recommend that you download and install this version.

To get more information it would be good if you could send us the full log-files from the profiler, preferably by using the /log command line argument.

You can create log-files by using the command line below. This will create a set of log-files in the c:\MemProfilerLogs directory.

"C:\Program Files\SciTech\NetMemProfiler4\NetMemProfiler.exe" /log:c:\MemProfilerLogs

The ProfilerLog.txt file will become very large, but it compresses well. You can contact us at support@scitech.se for information on how to send the log-files to us.

Thank you for your reply andreas.

I have installed the latest version of memory profiler and generating the snapshot now works fine!

Best regards.

OK, that's great. The bug we fixed could cause errors in unexpected places, so I hope that it was the reason for your crash.
