Cannot open Dump because Debugging tools are not found

Post by Ivan Todorov » Wed Jan 25, 2017 7:55 am

Hi All,

I am trying to open a dump file with .net memory profiler 4.6 and with NmpCore but I always receive message

".NET Memory Profiler has failed to locate an installation of Debugging Tools for Windows. These tools must be installed before the profiler can attach to a process.
....
"

I am using Windows 10 x64, VS 2015 Enterprise, I have installed WinDbg from section "Get debugging tools" from page https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/w ... driver-kit

My dump is made by 32bit Task Manager.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Ivan

It was my fault - I have a dump of 32bit process and installed only mem prof x64. I downloaded some debugging tools from memprofiler site for x32 and it flies now.

Yes, to import a 32-bit memory dump, you need to have the 32-bit Debugging Tools installed.

If you wish, you can also try the preview of .NET Memory Profiler 5.5. The memory dump import in this version is significantly improved, and does not rely on Debugging Tools or the Sos.dll library.
